Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Disabilities
At Woodlands Primary School, we believe that every child has the right to feel valued, included and successful. We are committed to providing an inclusive, nurturing environment where all pupils can achieve their full potential, regardless of their individual needs or starting points. Our approach is underpinned by the SEND Code of Practice (2015) and the Kent Mainstream Core Standards, ensuring that every child receives the support they need to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
Our Inclusive Approach
High-quality teaching is at the heart of everything we do. Class teachers carefully adapt learning to meet the needs of individual pupils, enabling children with SEND to access a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum alongside their peers. Where additional support is needed, we use a graduated approach to identify barriers to learning, implement targeted provision and regularly review its impact.
Our aim is to develop confident, resilient and independent learners who are fully included in all aspects of school life.
How We Support Children with SEND
Support is tailored to each child's individual strengths and needs and may include:
-
High-quality adaptive teaching within the classroom
-
Targeted intervention programmes
-
Speech, language and communication support
-
Literacy and numeracy interventions
-
Social, emotional and mental health support
-
Sensory and physical support
-
Advice and assessment from external professionals where appropriate
We work closely with parents and carers throughout this process, recognising that they know their child best. We believe that successful outcomes are achieved through strong partnerships between home and school.
Mental Health and Wellbeing
Children's emotional wellbeing is a priority at Woodlands. Alongside our inclusive pastoral support, we offer a range of targeted interventions including Breakfast Nurture, Nurture Lunch Groups, mentoring, Drawing and Talking Therapy, referrals to the School Health Emotional Wellbeing Team and the NELFT Emotional Wellbeing Team.
Working Together
If you have any concerns about your child's learning, development or wellbeing, we encourage you to speak to your child's class teacher in the first instance. We value open communication and will work with you to understand your child's strengths, discuss any concerns and agree the most appropriate support.
For children receiving SEND Support, parents are involved through regular reviews of their Personal Learning Plan (PLP), ensuring provision is monitored and adapted as needs change.
